COVID 19 –the latest changes to testing and isolation

With the Omicron variant now dominating the UK and spreading widely in the community, the Government has announced further changes to testing and isolation guidance. The latest changes coming into effect are:

Travel:

From 7th January

Eligible fully vaccinated travellers or those aged under 18 entering England from 04.00am onwards will no longer be required to take a pre-departure test or self-isolate on arrival but must continue to take post-arrival tests.

From 9th January

Eligible fully vaccinated travellers and those aged over 5 will be able to take a lateral flow test instead of a PCR on or before day 2 of their arrival in England. Lateral flow tests for travel can be booked from Friday 7 January and taken upon arrival, by the end of day 2. Anyone who receives a positive result on their lateral flow test must self-isolate immediately and order a NHS PCR test.

Employment:

From 11th January 2022

If you receive a positive lateral flow test you will be required to self-isolate immediately. You will not be required to take a confirmatory PCR test.

In line with the reduced self-isolation approach announced on 22 December, anyone who tests positive will be able to leave self-isolation 7 days after the date of their initial positive test if they receive 2 negative lateral flow results, 24 hours apart, on days 6 and 7.
